Jewelry Care

Gold-Filled Jewelry:

Gold filled jewelry have 100x more gold alloy than gold plated jewelry.  Because of this, gold filled jewelry is considered to be tarnish-free, hypoallergenic, and water resistant.  It is durable and meant to last for years. However, to extend the longevity of your pieces, it is highly recommended that you avoid having them exposed to harsh-chemicals and clean them with mild soap and water.

Your gold-filled jewelry can be worn at all times and will not tarnish! However, try to avoid exposure to chemicals and pat bracelet dry after water exposure.  Doing so will help make your gold-filled jewelry last a lifetime!

You may notice "dark spots" appear in between the beads of your gold-filled jewelry if worn all the time. This is not rust or tarnish.  It is residue build up from lotions, soap, and/or skin sweat/oil.  If this happens, simply remove your jewelry and soak it in dish of soapy warm water for 5 minutes and then use a soft bristled toothbrush to clean in between the beads and findings.  Then pat to dry and used a polishing cloth to bring back the shine.

Caring for Your Gold-Filled Jewelry:

  • Avoid Harsh Chemicals: To maintain the gold's shine, avoid exposing your jewelry to harsh chemicals found in cleaning products, chlorine, or perfumes.  Apply perfumes and lotions before putting on your jewelry.
  • Keep it Dry: Remove your jewelry before swimming, showering, or exercising to prevent moisture from affecting the metal.
  • Store Safely:  Store your gold-filled pieces in a soft pouch or cloth to protect them from scratches and prevent tangling with other jewelry.
  • Clean Regularly:  Gently clean your jewelry with warm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth or non-abrasive jewelry cleaner.  Dry it thoroughly with a soft towel to prevent water spots or tarnish.
  • Polish Occasionally: If your jewelry loses its shine, use a soft polishing cloth to bring back its luster.  Avoid using abrasive materials that can wear down the gold layer.

With these simple steps, your gold-filled jewelry can retain its beauty and brilliance for a lifetime!

Gold-Plated Jewelry:

Gold-plated jewelry consists of a thin layer of gold over a base metal like brass of silver.  It offers the beauty of gold at a more affordable price, but to keep it looking its best, proper care is essential.

Caring for Your Gold-Plated Jewelry:

  • Avoid moisture:  Keep your jewelry dry by removing it before swimming, showering, or exercising.  Moisture can wear down the gold layer over time.
  • Limit Chemical Exposure: Perfume, lotions, and household cleaning products can tarnish the finish.  Apply perfumes and lotions before putting on your jewelry.
  • Store Properly: When not wearing your jewelry, store it in a soft cloth or pouch to avoid scratching.
  • Clean Gently: Use a soft, lint-free cloth to wipe down your gold-plated jewelry after each wear.  Avoid harsh cleaning products; mild soap and water work best for occasional cleaning.
  • Avoid Friction: Minimize rubbing or wearing your gold-plated pieces with other metals to reduce wear and tear.
